After eight years of steam gathering, the TD-SCDMA industry has witnessed explosive grow over the past year, and TD Tech is just one of the epitomes of development of the industry.

With a total investment of over 100 million USD, TD Tech was co-founded by Siemens and Huawei in March 2005 with 51% and 49% shares respectively. This makes for over 300 million USD investment in TD from TD Tech and its parent companies, the largest investment in the TD field.

Progress in commercial use
Backed by the strength of Siemens and Huawei in TD, TD Tech started with TD core technology and product R&D. It is now one of the leading companies in TD and is engaged in R&D, manufacturing, marketing and service of TD radio network system and equipment.

“We’re well prepared for the commercial use of TD in every aspect,” said He Ruijuan, sales & marketing director of TD Tech, to CBN (China Business News). The TD-based 3G products made by TD Tech include NodeB series, RNC series, and related radio network management equipment.
As a result, since its founding just over a year ago, TD Tech has completed its transition from a predominately R&D company to a full-scale comprehensive company dealing in TD R&D, manufacturing and marketing, capable of providing operators with comprehensive TD solutions.

Considering the progress of development in China’s 3G market, TD Tech instituted a definite plan for the evolution and R&D of TD products. At the end of the third quarter of 2005, TD Tech launched the first set of TD commercial products.

In the middle of 2006 , TD Tech put forth the second set of TD commercial products, which were more lightweight and compact in design, and much easier for transportation and installation. Additionally, TD Tech also put forward its first HSDPA scheme.

“Of course, TD Tech will keep creating new products,” He Ruijuan told CBN. For instance, all-series base stations with adaptable coverage and superior quality, all the IP and products will be designed to meet the needs of future videophones and put forth in the coming one or two years successively.

Multi-faceted preparations
TD Tech estimates that there will be 170 million 3G users in China in five years to come, which indicates a significant future demand for the network construction, greater scope and quantity.

According to He Ruijuan, upon the launch of 3G in China, TD-SCDMA will see a clear market prospect in China. Encouraged by this, TD Tech is stepping up product R&D. TD Tech will keep improving all-series base stations, and implement key coverage from cities to towns, districts and hot traffic spots at the present time. The multi-scene coverage equips TD-SCDMA with the ability for large-scale networking. Meanwhile, introduction of new technology, including HSDPA, will largely improve the network quality and enhance the support for the high-speed data business.

Currently TD Tech’s TD products can satisfy the need for the roam/shift between GSM and TD net. In regard to supply capacity, TD Tech’s base station equipment is manufactured by Shanghai Siemens Ltd., one of Siemens’ largest manufacturing bases worldwide. To meet future market demand, TD Tech is now capable of providing nearly 1000 units of equipment via mass production per month.

In network design, TD Tech cooperates with FORSK of France to develop complete TD planning instruments, which can solve network capacity estimation and pre-planning comprehensively.

As a matter of fact, the TD Tech-made equipment is especially directed for large-scale commercial use and is currently being engaged in the large-scale application of TD network technology organized by the three major ministries. “We are doing particularly well in testing at the third stage,” He Ruijuan told us. In Baoding and Xiamen, TD Tech-made equipment is fully tested and the Ministry of Information Industry will announce its final conclusions on the performance of TD equipment in the future.
